Madagascar ammonite: Douvilliceras sp.
the ammonite described here is coming from the north west part of Madagascar : Ambarrimaninga Formation,Ambatolafia locality.There are estracted from a glauconitic sandstone related to the early Albian period ( middle Cretaceus ) dated about 100-113 million years ago.
This deposit is very famous for these well preserved cephalopod were in most case the original shell has been preserved showing iridescent colors,and the aragonite is responsible for it.
Here we have a polished section of both part showing the internal structure with the chambers filled either with sandstone or crystalized.
