Pink-brown zircon 1.74 ct
is a magnificent stone; unfortunately has a name that has been confused with Cubic Zirconia, which is a synthetic material. In the middle age the reddish-brown variety has been named Hyacinth, today in some countries this name is applied only to the yellow type. Good hardness (7.5- 8 from the Mohs scale),but is little brittle.It may loose it's color and turns to brownish when expose to sunlight,but it will become orange again after a period of few weeks in the dark,The yellow zircon instead is stable at light exposure.From Sri Lanka.
